California’s Senate Bill 1499, the proposal to ban the sale of helium-filled foil balloons, went to vote on Monday, April 28. Of the 30 senators present, 16 voted for and 14 voted against. Passage requires 21 yes votes, thus passage failed. Ten senators were absent. The sponsor of the bill, Senator Scott, requested and was granted reconsideration, which may result in a new vote as early as Thursday, May 1. It’s time to circle the wagons!
